File consists of correspondence, reports and working committee / pre-conference papers concerning organisational arrangements for the Black Citizen’s Conference. The Conference was held in the European Parliament and chaired by Bernie Grant and representatives of the Socialist Group. This forum largely arose out of a need for Black and Migrant communities in the EEC to share views on common problems that they were likely to face due to the concerns presented by the 1992 Single Market Economy process. A central aim of the conference was to assist the Socialist Group in its policy formulation towards 1992 with respect to Community legislation. The main themes of the conference included: Black and Migrant women and 1992; free movement; political participation and rights; and Black perspectives on the South eg Gulf War. Includes draft program and ‘Draft proposal for a Euroconference of Black and Migrant organisations in the European community’. Also contains important letters of support addressed to Bernie Grant re initiating the conference; correspondence from Oona King re Socialist Group Black Conference meeting; and administrative applications for a Stagiere to assist in the organisation of the conference.
